Tank Journal Archive

my understanding is that they reduce the flow to much? if your keen on drilling the bottom have you thought about a dedicated closed loop? and just drilling the back of the tank for a return?

Thanks guys, yeh I know that there will be a siphon back but a good return valve like matt said should stop it. Non return valves, like gate ones not the ball check vales, should restrict very much. Unless u can suggest a small closed loop pump?

how you gonna turn that gate valve off to stop the syphon if the power goes out and your not home? i would recomend a UNO magnetic drive pump HCM75 3200lpm at 1m head, comes with 20mm inlet and outlet for plumbing. Perfect pump and extremly reliable in saltwater

Plumbing I rekon is like Lego... Kinda can't go wrong everything just fits together. Waiting for the drill bit I ordered just to drill my overflow. Need to put a ball valve on the siphon but that's easy. Might do just a very rough freshwater test to make sure nothing leaks. When I get the skimmer I'll build the sump, then time to get sand and order some LR! yew! Pics tomorrow

The non return valve I used is american manufactured and is called Spears. It is excellent. Expensive but cheap insurance ;)

Yehp, 20mm siphon dialed tuned for 99% flow, and emergency durso 25mm to make it whisper quiet!
