Introduction:
Finally got the tank I wanted guys, so its time to start my system, and hopefully do it the right way from scratch this time. I'm going to try and throw up where I get my equipment from, how I did things and try to explain every aspect of a typical build, as I will be attempting 90% myself. Hopefully it will help answer some questions, maybe even trigger some

Sounds like you have a good plan happening. Whens the eta for this to be up and running? Do you have to buy all the gear or have you already got some? Good luck

Cheers guys, yeh it's Gunna be ALOT of detail cause I figured I may as well help others out and there will be quite a few topics covered in here :)
Matt, not sure depends in how much OT i do but to give u an idea:
I only have the tank, most plumbing, return pump, test kits, heaters and powerheads. I need bulkheads still. I could build the stand in a day. I rekon next weekend I'll put in a big order at guppys (protien skimmer, pumps for that, lights, ATO) I reckon I could have it bare (but running) in 4 weeks. Let's make that the deadline.

So got to work on the stand today and got it about 80% finished. Its DEFINITELY not coming apart, 3x2 and 4x2 pine, 100mm 316 grade SS srews. I think my drill nearly packed it in after about 16 of them :O Now for pics

Nice solid stand - pretty similar to how I built mine. Are you planning on a back - you might need something to stop any lateral movement.

Hope you have long arms :D

Ow I forgot to add there will be a second set of 4x2 uprights at a right angles with the ones you can see here so there will be 8 uprights. Plus the 1 at the back.

Thanks Matt. Ha I hope so, it's my first one. But I'm just trying to be on the safe side, as I've seen some stands I wouldn't put my coffee on :o when I'm done should be nice and solid. More pics this arvo hopefully!

Yehp :)
Got the rest of the stand done today, squared everything up and put in the second supports. Had a bit of wood left over so i threw it in the back, now I can either srew some shelves on or put powerpoints there. Also adds a bit off lateral support.
So far, goods list looks a bit like this :
4.0 M of 4x2 structural pine.
6.0 M of 3x2 structural pine.
55 X 316 grade 90 MM 8 guage SS screws.
25 X 70 MM Gal screws
25 X 70 MM Nails
1 X 1800x600x12mm glued pine
1 X 1200x600x12mm ply
Cost to date : approx $110.

Looks good mate, I have seen houses with less timber in them than that stand!
Yeh I know I know, I figured the extra $40 I have spent overall, comparing 1 3x2 upright to 2 4x2 uprights, Its cheap insurance :)
theres still plywood to b cut and screwed on around the outside yet, then painting and dressing. I wont fill the post with pics, ill wait tll ive finished and put in the electrical then throw some more up, I could get carried away with photos!

Ran some silicon around where water may get trapped on the stand, will paint sometime this week. put my lighting in too, just 2 x 20W T8 fitting. May add another down the road. Just picked up a temperature controller as well as 4 way remote controller. Stage 1 of automation has started
