Tank Journal Archive

Hey guys

Been an awfully long time since i've posted here so i thought i'd update it. Lots has happened since setting up the new aquascape and rocks. First time i've tried using dry base rocks seeded in a bucket and aquascaped with rods and putty. I'm really happy with the aquascape as its completely off the back glass and allows good flow all around the structure. The bridge like structure is great for the CBS which love to hang out upside down in the overhang, and the 6 line wrasse loves flying through it at speed (scaring the crap out of the clowns). I've added a mix of nice coloured corals from Aquaristic, Newtown Aquariums and Hunter Pets, all of which i'd recommend to people as they really know their stuff. Corals have settled in nicely including the SPS, a small browned out stag has now got all its colour back and is encrusting finally (thanks Puffy) and the anemone is nicely coloured and fully extended and hasn't moved an inch since i put him in. My pride an joy at the moment is the awesome monti, blue with orange polyps and a hint of green also. Its only been in for a few weeks and the colour is really brightening up. The orange acans is also a winner, and is very happy with any feed it can get (using the ocean nutrition frozens at the moment). I've also added 7 aquacultured clowns from pete down at All About Fish in Warners Bay who is another great guy to talk to about the hobby.

Chemically the tank is coming along pretty well, nitrates are at about 0.5ppm (RS pro) and phosphates at 0.02ppm (Hanna) using the Red Sea No3:po4x at 1ml/100L / day on an peristaltic pump. I am keeping up the feeding as much as possible to keep the levels from dropping too low. The only under performer is the Tunze 9002 skimmer which doesn't pull much out of the system (could be because there isn't much to pull but i doubt it). Still nothing is showing any signs of stress.

And most excitedly, my clowns started hosting in the nem the other day! I didn't have much hopes for them since they were aquacultured and had never even seen an anemone before but sure enough, 3 of the 7 now regularly go and wiggle about in it (when they are totally sure they aren't getting fed). Funnily enough, the smallest clown has taken to sleeping upside down in the top corner of the tank, very amusing (and disconcerting).

On to the photos:

I'm still working on getting good photos out of the tank (hence why no good FTS), they are a struggle with LEDs. Tank looks awesome in real life though so can't complain. I especially love the 10 minutes i give them under the 2x30W spot lights.

Thanks

Jamie

Hey guys

Finally got round to taking a few more photos, including a fts this time. Recently I've just been letting the tank settle down and mature. Getting some nice coloration developing in the sps including puffys SOS frag he gave me. Thanks to edi for the new flame angel! He's settling in nicely and adds a lot of interest and colour to the tank.

Enjoy

how u finding the max spec not burning out any corals i've found mine really bright and needed to tone them down on my 2ft cube :D tanks looking great but, nice modding on the hood :)

Yeah i love the colour of the maxspec. I was very gentle with the photo period when introducing corals, i'm still only at 20 minutes for the 30W spotlights. Corals seem to love it though, especially the nem which is now a brilliant green colour and hasn't moved an inch. I did notice i've lost one white LED last night, will need to get a replacement sometime.
