Reefuge not loading at times on PC
Hey every one,

Just wondering if any one else is having intermittent issues with the reefuge on there PC. I am running windows 7 64bit and probably every 3rd time it will re direct me and say not found. Sorry forgot to get last error code. When I use my Tablet I don't have any issues. I am using chrome as my browser as well

Thanks

I get an IP block for a while if I open too many tabs at once, particularly pic heavy threads. Seems to lock me out for a couple of hours then is fine again.

But your issue sounds different if it works on your tablet.

So said your tablet is on the same "Wifi" as your PC - how far away from your wireless router is your PC? What's the signal strength like? Do you happen to see a lot of the neighbours Wifi SSIDs when you try to connect something to your WIFi? It's certainly possible that it's just some kind of spectrum congestion which can happen with Wifi - for the most part it just adds some latency which might cause a browser time out. Depending on the specific environment, it's quite plausible that the PC is being impacted more than a tablet. This forum software can be a little cranky if there is abnormally high latency as well, so that could make it more noticeable than other websites. Start adding browser caching into the mix (one of things browser caches exist for but sadly can cause more issues than they solve), and things can be a little more difficult to diagnose!

Thanks for the replying guys. @DavidS The PC is plugged in to the WiFi router with an Ethernet cable using CAT6 and is about 1 foot away. No other WiFi connections come up as I live out in the sticks on the sunshine coast. It did to me a couple of times again today and took a screen shot but wont paste in to here. Even with no other windows open it happens. May just have to see if it sorts itself out. Just starnge it has only started when the forum was changed

If it's wired then its none of what I was suggesting it could be. I'd go with some kind of caching issue (clean out your temporary internet files). There are other (and far harder to diagnose) possibilities, but it happening since a change in the website and being isolated to a specific machine is usually indicative of a browser issue.... and usually pesky temporary internet files will be cause.

Hello everyone,

I have also had problems over the last 24 hours. It has not been since the changeover as some may believe. The changeover had no server changes at all.

However, if everyone could please provide traceroute readings, it would help find where the error is.

Thanks.

must have just been a coincidence for me then, started the day it happened so I put 2 and 2 together, obviously got 5 :)

For the people not up to speed with that kind of thing, what is a traceroute and how do I do it?

On my phone and table its fine, just desktops and laptop

site loads painfully slow for me since the changover. Just took me 4 minutes to open this thread, just says waiting for www.thereefuge.com.au at the bottom. Same on my work pc and laptop,
It's very difficult to draw a relationship between the site being slow to load on multiple machines you use and a simple matter of the template the site uses being changed. There's almost an infinite number of possibilities that could cause that between your modem and the server this site sits on, and nearly all of them are beyond the control of The Reefuge.
I won't even try to explain the most likely ones as they're too complicated unless you have a particularly strong knowledge of how the internet hangs together :P

Still, you could try to clear your browser caches.
You'd be surprised at what that can fix!

Not blaming anyone pal. Just stating the issue I am having.

Will just persevere with it, they are all doing the exact same thing from the exact same point in time, I assumed they may be related. Obviously not

Hello @aussieant32,

Please try rebooting your modem, this may try and connect you to The Reefuge server via another way and fix the issue. I am guessing the most likely issue is a routing issue between USA and AUS.

Thanks.

I can do that at home, but my work PC's are doing the same thing and I connect via ethernet so not sure how I go about rebooting the modem. Will try work it out.

Hello everyone,

Can everyone who was having issues please reply and update on if the site is still loading slow for you? We modified some settings in the server yesterday and would like to know if it fixed the issue.

Thanks.

It is quicker for me now, but I have also rebooted all 3 modems I was on so not sure if that did it or the changes. Appreciate the efforts though, back to normal speed now :)
