this fish is also known as the Clowded wrasse or nebula wrasse. Very wide distribution and dimorphic in colouration (like most wrasses). Mature individual shown on this page:

They are known from the tropical Indo-pacific and west pacific- to east Africa.

I think any discussions about colour variation in the depected fish is best served on t a thread specifically devoted to wrasse colour change.
