Please help me ID what this substance is, I'm not sure it's algae or bacteria or something else. It's all over my liverocks and every hard surface but it doesn't affect the tank glass. It comes off easily through siphoning and abit of brushing but it'll keep coming back after a few days or less then a week. It's light brown and feel gooey and slimy. If you know what it is and the best way to get rid of it permanently, it would be much appreciated.

I recently had a case of green Cyanobacteria. When I googled it ( I always thought purple). I did read something about brown cyno too. It's slimy , gooey & comes back after removal . Maybe google it and see if pictures match ?

Thanks Lesley, I googled brown cyno but eventually got to golden diatoms algae. There's not a lot of info on it unfortunately.

How old is the rock? if it was freshly collected it could be die bacteria from the inside.
