water changes
I do water changes religiously weekly. what are your opinions?
how often do you do your water changes and what percentage of water?
i do 60L a week on a 350L system

Honestly... I NEVER do waterchanges haha, the last one i did was when we moved house, 2/3 months ago.
Allthough im going to try and do one weekly now, or MINIMUM every 2 weeks.

Its just coz this one is hard to do waterchanges with, my new tank will have a hole in the back about 1/4 from teh top with a valve and hose connector, as well as a plumbed return line, so all you have to do is clip on 2 hoses, open the valve and turn on a pump = Waterchange done. :)

at the moment im doing almost 20% a week water changes.
i was thinking about cutting it down to 30L a week to cutdown on salt costs.
on a 350l system 5% is 18L roughly, so ill still be doing over 5 percent allmost 10 percent per week.

Yeah I found i had better coralline growth when i did more water changes ( SInce i don't add any supps as of yet) But at the moment my vortechs are covered in it

Around 40l on a 450l system a week - so a bit less than 10%/week. A good opportunity to clean the sand and rocks at the same time.

i just did a water change then and cut it down to around 30L. this should make my salt last twice as long and save alot of $$

not to sure. at the moment calcium addition is 1ml a day, and 6ml a day of alk, if i used a generic powder and mixed my own i could save heaps. although i like the consistancy of buying prebottled liquid, when im getting low i can just buy a 20$ 500ml bottle and top up the 1.5L containers i have under the cabinet. 1 bottle of calc lasts over a year!
