The $2 Experiment...
Saw this in the Live rock bin at a LFS. I think it had just been put there. Bought it at $5/Kg (it weighed 200g but somehow 0.2Kg @ $5/Kg = $2. I'm not going to argue over a dollar.

Worth a shot. It has a bit of die off on 1 end, but it's a good 15cm's + in length so I can hide that end under the aquascape somehow.

It didn't smell off or anything so why not. Anyway (ignore the green sandbed)

It looks like a fungia . . If it is, those things are virtually bullet proof.
I've had one for about 4 years and at one stage due to tank problems it had the vital signs of a hockey puck. It bounced back and is going great now.

When the tentacles come out shoot a picture for a positive ID. I think it's a Polyphillia talpina. It has the wrong skeleton to be a Herpolitha limax.

Still going strong, but no polyp extension yet.

I think something else is going on in the tank - 1/2 the softies aren't really inflating. Water Parameters are still pretty spot on and consistent but I have noticed little nibble marks all over the corals and a couple of Xenia colonies have been decimated. Just trying to catch the guilty party.

If it does start some extension I'll let you know.
