Hi guys,

Can someone please help ID this starfish for me. It came on some live rock I purchased today. It is around 10 inches long. This is only one of its arms. I did not know what it was, I thought it may have been some worms in the rock.

Perhaps Ophiocoma alexandri

Just a brittle starfish anyway.

Is it okay to put in the tank, or dangerous?

Just a scavenger. Good part of clean up crew. Some people don't like them in their tanks but each to their own.

Looks like the leg of a brittle to me as well

I currently have 2 I know of in my tank

Awesome. It is now in the tank. It vanished after 2 mins. I can no longer see him, really amazing at hiding.

I have a big one that lives in my overflow box

Don't know how he got in there

Don't know how I can get him out but he's been in there for over three months now

I wouldn't panic about em, I can usually find 5 or 6 in my nano just by looking. And that's just the ones that have tentacles sticking out of various holes.

10 inches is a fair size ;)The ones that come in on live rock are usually much smaller than that.

On the upside Dynamic, you're going to find a whole lot more critters getting around sooner or later. :D
