Some photos by the aandtsociety from our club collecting trips
One of the guys here thought some content of this nature, the marine aquarium species collecting that the (aandtsociety) marine group carry out, might be interesting as content for some forum folk here to check out.

Hopefully there won’t be any tossers from the opinions and disorders jumping on the thread and display their regular adolescent stupidity here as well.

That’s a bit much to expect, lol, the toilet has over flowed to here a bit already.

Any way, the club has changed a bit since it’s hey day of the biggest, still, back than as is now, one aspect of it has always been in play, recreational collecting of the members own aquarium species, both fresh and salt.

The interest in the freshwater side of things has gone and it’s all about marines now.

The fish and inverts we collect for our selves or each other, survive or don’t as well as any other aquarium bought species, though quite often better!

Two of us used to put our collecting trip pics out there on the net to share, entertain and get some interest in the collecting adventures of our Brisbane south areas club,it’s just me these days, Phil has health issues.

I hope this helps your forum in some way and as this type of thing is designed to do, maybe a little club promotion!

These are just a few of the lovely fish species common we encounter on the club or members collecting trips.

If any one wants to question any legalities of recreational collecting of fish and corals we have up to date authority contact details to check with and all the links to the regulations on any forms of collecting.

That’s a little from the last few months of our trips, if there are not probs with the forum admin,I will include the regular club promotional threads I put around the place once or twice a month, yay or nay,it’s your forum guys, copy and pasting is not that hard, lol.,where have I seen those words before, lol, lol, lol.

Good reefing all.

Thanks for the post. what do you mean by "recreational collecting" do you mean collecting without a license? do you have anymore under water reef shots?

Recreational collecting means, the general public can collect with out any need for permits or liscenses.

You do not need a permit in Q to collect fish, algaes,or any inverts including corals,it is legal for private people to collect these life forms for private use.collecting is not to be carried out with the use of underwater breathing apparatus.

We have all those details, but i do not just want to transfer a link from our clubs forum to some one elses forum.

In marine parks, you can collect five things per twenty eight days,or ten things per boat for the same length of time,no coral collection in marine parks and no collecting at all in green zones.

Out side marine parks there are no restrictions on numbers of collected aquarium species,no dinner species of fish can be collected under sized and all live rock and corals, including anemones can be collected out side of marine parks with out the use of underwater breathing apparatus,no limits on numbers.

Thats the law!

It used to be free to collect here in NSW years ago but you still needed to apply for a permit, then they started charging $50.Which I didn't mind paying, but now they want information that is impossible to supply as they want info on what species you are going to catch before you even put a foot in the water. There was so much paper work I just got over it and just rely on our LFS.It was awesome catching your own fish the mortality rate was near zero as there was no traveling involved. You get good at holding your breathe 2-3min lol.

Cheers Mat

Gee things have changed so much down there.
I haven't had a NSW permit for around 8years now,it sounds a bit silly the hoops you have to jump through.
There are virtualy no warm water species surviving winter down there any way, they come in the plankton, drop, live for a while and than die, surely they know that much!
And the estauries these days have so many feshwater flushes from the increasing global warming, not like a while back for sure.
I know there are big amounts of collectors doing it with out paying,i saw on another forum a guy telling of avoiding fisheries,if they said something like that on the clubs forum, the thread and them would be gone in two seconds, they just make it hard for others that can actualy think.
Its one thing to maybe not do exactly the right thing here and there, but to put it on the web, thats the act of a fool to put it there and an even greater moron to let it stay there.
Any way,2 to 3 mins,very cool mat!!lol.

No worries liquidg actually when i was living up the coast a mate an i did a trip up north(qld)We initially contacted the authorities about collecting and was told that we could take virtually any species in pairs including anemones. They were very helpful and sent us all the info on where to go,not like here they didn't want to know about it.Maybe i need to do another trip up north.I still like to have a look around there are some good spots around here and we get some nice variety of species here to such a shame but its not worth getting busted over.

By the way, I understand coral collecting in any Marine Park is not allowed, but what I am struggling with, is finding a map of Queensland that shows where the Marine Parks are (so we can then determine where it is legal to take coral from).

From what I can tell, the only part of the SE QLD coast that isnt covered by a Marine Park, is from the Gold Coast down to Coolangatta. Would that be right?

Cheers

Jimmy, I work as an environmental scientist (consultant) in Brisbane. I do agree with you. It is my understanding that it is Ilegal to collect corals without a permit in Queensland.

hey liquidg i have been following other posts in other forums and it seems like you get the same result each time. can you show us some government doccuments, regarding the legal requirements and areas that are legal. i also dont believe in collecting in a place that is used by many people for snorkeling.
i have also been watching the amount of stock that you guys collect for personal use. it seems rather excessive. when cash is exchanged between hands isnt that classed as non personal use? thanks
