I was about to say its coralline algae, then I read your first sentence :p It's the same shape as a turbo snail and I think thats what it is.

Thanks Megan...I wasn't sure really as I haven't taken much notice of the shape of turbo snails and googling them seems to show up different shapes...

I'm sure I read somewhere that turbo snails tend to be nocternal, is this true? If it is I have found that I've only seen this little fellow early in the morning before too much light comes through the window and then he disappears. So far only on the same rock also.

I have a large, ~40mm diameter, turbo snail in my tank and it is very active. I dont think I have ever seen it sitting still, it goes all day and night!
