chasing a skimmer to suit up to 1000l but foot print 6"x6" or there abouts 550mm height would be max internal what is out there thanks

ouch that's a tough ask. I know you say 1000L, but what is the stocking level like?

high tank is 500 ltr vol pred tank

Only thing I know that fits that description is a tunze 9012, the dc is meant to be more aggressive, but generally, they are known as a reliable, quiet but gentle skimmer. If you were going to go down that like id perhaps look at running ozone or something to help break as well.

Ideally, id look at plumbing an external skimmer like a Deltec TC series rated to 2000+ L somewhere where you had the room.
