Hey all...

Is this a red sea fan?! Its been growing over the past 2 months or so...

It looks very nice, especially when it was a freeby that came in on your live rock.

But, no, it is not a Gorgonian of any type but a type of red algae.

That is Halimenia algae, it's cool and it does pretty good in an aquarium. I got a piece that grew for about a year, then the Powder Blue decided he liked it after all and ate the whole damn plant, lol.

Absolutely - if it gets too big you will have no problems finding someone to take it off your hands.

Yes it is. Here's a pic of it in my 57 just before the Powder Blue mowed it down. It's in the middle of the tank, the pinkish thing on the right side of the overflow. I'm looking for a better picture of it. The colour is dependent on the light intensity, darker red for lower light and pink when the light it high.
