Not sure if this is feasible but I often think it would be great, if when creating a poll, there was an option allowing respondents to add their own options to the poll.

Thank you for your suggestion, but this will defeat the purpose of the poll. Due to this reason the polls will not be modified and thus not implemented.

Depends on your point of view. I have placed a poll & thread asking for PH test kit recommendations & I have no way of know all the credible options available.

So if Joe blow says he uses XYZ, he could add it to the poll choice thus negating the need for thread posts saying "me too". It's quite a common function in open polls these days whereas closed polls have more 'political' uses, narrowing choices to those the poster wants to hear about and limiting the discussion.

A poll probably wasn't suitable in that thread anyway. In that sort of thread it's better for everyone to give their opinion since there are so many different test brands.
