Millepora Coral, White Before Getting Home?
Hi guys, bought a tri colour millepora coral today at a LFS, took it straight home (20mins) and it was white coming out of the bag? Been in the tank 4 hours now, still white.... Should I do something? Will it come back or is it gone?

Pic would be nice as it could be just paled which means it should bounce back :) if it's bleached then you've got trouble but stick up a pic :)

SPS react slowly so even if it is just pale it can potentially take weeks for it to colour up nicely again.

It doesn't look like bleaching or tissue necrosis to me, could you get a shot under just whites and blues? The purple light makes it hard to tell if it's colouring or Shadows but it doesn't look bad, just in happy :)

Fair enough. It still has polyps out, gotta be a good sign? Could coral revive dip it if people think it's a good idea?

just throw the book at it. do everything! dip it, feed it, massage it, cuddle it. then just sit back, stop freaking out and let it settle in. if it wasn't dead when you bought it, one could assume that a 20 minute trip home would not kill it. maybe contact the place you bought it and chat to them about it. i'm sure it will be just fine.

If it were dead, there wouldn't be polyps for it to extend!! :D That's exciting news - means it's still alive :D

Good luck, Sam!! I hope it bounces back quickly for you!!!

Just let it settle in Sam, the colour comes back. My yellow one was white in parts until I switched to better lighting. The colour then came back within a week.

I have only had two millepora. I killed both and attributed it to doing a carbon change both times. When I was complaining about my instant overnight Mille RTN it was vpreef who asked had I changed the carbon recently. Sure enough I had. I think these are a very sensitive coral based on what I experienced.

The whole thing is white as a ghost today, but has good polyp extension! I'll leave it in for a week and monitor any changes. No recent carbon change, did put a fresh batch of rowa in today though, just I case my phosphates upset it (despite going white before touching my tank water...)

Polyps is definitely a good sign. It sounds like it has just bleached, RTN means it dies and shows skeleton. It might well bounce back over time.

Give it time and a stable environment it will come back , it doesn’t look like RTN to me either . BTW it can take weeks for them to colour back up again.
