Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, "a factitious word alleged to mean 'a lung disease caused by the inhalation of very fine silica dust, causing inflammation in the lungs.

This is probably what my grandmother has - she says she's been dying from some special disease that no one else has and its so rare even the doctors don't know what it is :rolleyes - I will tell her she has this and see what she says! ;)

I think this word was made up by the scientific community solely for the purpose of making it the longest English word.
