Live rock and cold water
Is putting LR in water that is not heated bad? I am waiting for my heater, but I would also like to start the cycle.

Thanks.

I think you would get a higher level of die-off than if the water was heated. But, if I remember correctly, the live rock bin at Reeflections in Moorabbin was not heated .
If you haven't already got the rock, wait till you have the heater. If you have the rock then cold water is better than no water :D

It will kill more stuff on the rock possibly leading to a longer cycle.... but not much else

you might find less hitchikers... good and bad ones.

Thats about it ;). Live rock is expensive so you want to try and maintain as much of the life as possible. Otherwisw you might as well just use cheaper dead rock - it well eventually populate with various organisms as you add corals etc to your tank.

If you have an understanding of prodibio or zeo you can greatly speed up your cycle.

I added fish and coral on day 10. Back when I started I waited four weeks for my nitrogen cycle...
