Problem with reading too many is you'll get into the brand wars, and find yourself forever waiting for a new model. :D

I am favoring the 550D at the moment, although the swivel screen on the 600D could be useful. That or the 3100/5100. The brand does not worry me, although there are quite a few comments saying the Canon lenses are more readily available than Nikon.
