Feedback And Suggestions
Hello everyone,

I have been speaking to @Lesley and @Sam Parker about a few things on The Reefuge. In the following weeks the navigation system will slightly change to make it easier for users to access all parts of the site directly through it and to make it easier for new users to navigate. I have started working on it and hopefully it will be ready soon.

What I did want to ask the rest of you about was the tank journals. Those of you who use multiple reefing forums will know that The Reefuge uses a specialised journal system for users journals, as opposed to a single-thread like other websites.

What I wanted to ask you all was for feedback regarding our journal system. What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? What would you change if you could? What would you add if you could?

All feedback is welcome as we would like to have the best reef journals in the world.

Thanks.

I love the journal system, it flows much better than a single giant thread.
What don't I love about it? The order of the posts on the journal home page seem to be based off last post rather than creation date.

The order is off creation date in the journal itself. The only time creation date is used is on the journal listings (for entire journals) so you can see which journals have been updated recently. Journal updates should be in order of creation date, if they are not, this may be a bug.

I wouldn't change a thing about your journals. Best around. Simple to use. Easy to follow any ones great to look back over time. Personally I wouldn't change a thing.

Personally I'd rather have 1 thread with our 3 tanks, soon to be 4 tanks, to be just for ease of finding them all.

Not our fault if you have too many bloody tanks. Most sensible people have one so it's easy. You Americans always have to go bigger. I mean just look at upsizing at McDonald's. Crazy. !!! Nah love ya really. Lol

I liked how it used to have a description of the tank at the front page of each journal.
This information is now displayed in the sidebar of the tank journal. This was done because people ended up using the description of the journal as the journal itself. But I guess it is possible to move this information to the header, maybe.

Trust me Lesley, if I had to pay the prices y'all pay down there I'd only have one or I'd have so damn many the DNR would wanna know if I was exporting because of all my collecting expeditions, lol.

I like the subscribe feature, I've noticed a lot of members aren't using it - so check it out! It's a way of encouraging the tank journal owner as well.

The blog style is excellent - I've gotten so used to it I find other sites tank journal formats very frustrating and time consuming, its like reading a book without a contents page and the chapters are not in logical order.

Not journal related: on the homepage, where you get previews of the latest posts, I'd like to be able to see the username of the poster - there are some people on here I enjoy all of their posts no matter the subject and if I see its them I'll tend to click on it.

Only two lines of code. This has now been added. As well as number of replies and number of "likes",

Thanks.

Awesome, thanks! I never know if something we suggest to you is going to result in hours of your time. I'll have to come up with something more challenging next time :p
