a mate of mine needed to get rid of a few bits and pieces i picked up this little clam and was wondering if anyone could id it for me and also any tips on placement/care

Any chance of getting a photo in the inhale syphon?

Judging by the shell its either a poorly treated squam or a stunted maxima, the pattern looks more consistent with squam to me but that really isnt the best way of picking it.

If you treat it right it looks like you can get some really nice colours out of it, but you will need to get some strong lights on it to bring that out otherwise you will be stuck with the brown and need to keep the food up to it,
