Appetite For Destruction

Believe it or not I have turned a regular snail into an Acropora eating beast…(slightly dramatic)

How ….well at the start of this year I had my snails lay eggs. As a result I have an over populated my aquarium with snail’s. I did give some away to Sam & Dom

However I still have an abundance of them. As a result of the overpopulation and the limited supply of food one of them developed a taste for acropora. (hope it’s only one )

How I found this out was I started to see one Acro start to reside. Now I have had STN/RTN before and seen its destruction. This looked different from the start because all my SPS look happy & healthy. And It was only one.

I decided to give it a bath in coral RX, just as I was about to put the Acro into the bath I noticed a small snail. I picked it up and I dropped it back in……(dumb I know) in the bath it parted ways with some small creatures but my eye sight is as it once was .

About a week later I noticed another plating acro STNing ..it wasn’t till I looked closely that I found the problem . In the same proximity of where I dropped him.

Anybody else seen this b4 ?

Also please keep an eye on yours

Thanks @ezza , no idea what kind they are , I have about 30-50 of them now . They have been reef safe except of that one.

Personally I'd pull the damn thing. Some snails are opportunistic and will change foods if their main food dries up. If you can get a better picture it would help with an ID.

It looks like some sort of Turban snail to me mate. Snails are odd ducks, like I said before, they can and will, as you found out, change foods in time of need. I like Stomatella snails as well as Turbo Grazers and haven't had issues with those 2 yet.
