Anyone Else Got More Than 1 "hobby"?
Hi Guys,

Find this an interesting topic due to a lot of people I know having more then one Animal hobby at once?

My 5 hobbies are:
1. Native and Exotic Parrot Breeding/Keeping.
2. Keeping/Breeding of Australian Snakes.
3. Datsun 1600 Sedan project. 13b Rotary Turbo engine.
4. Marine (only new to this, but find it the most fun so far :D)
5. Santa Gertrudis Cattle

Just wondering if anyone else out there was as crazy as I am to have so many on the go. I have come to the conclusion I work for my hobbies!...

here are some pictures :)

I have too many hobbies. Other than my marine system (2 tanks plumbed together throught the sump), I have a planted tank in my sons room, An olive python in the lounge room, sand goanna in an aviary in the back yard, 4 chooks, 1 cat and a dog. Then I have a Nissan Patrol that I cant afford to play with as much as I would like! Also a bit of camping, fishing and hunting...

I love of the 13bt in the 1600! I had a Series 2 Rx7 running microtech injection on a s4-5 hybrid 13b. It was running no turbo, it was on the plans but then I wrote it off! Full custom, suspension, factory mazda racing (RE amemiya or something...) LSD! It was good fun to drive and I really miss it. One day I will build an 808 sleeper with 13b turbo... One day...

Hobbies? Hobbies? Waaaaay too many here... Not that many animal related, but I always seem to find myself getting involved in something or other to keep me busy.

Ok, where to start - probably known most for my racing. Not currently racing at the moment (very slowly building a new bike), but did at at the pro level for 10 years:

If you have a spare 20mins, watch some top footage here:

Also did a few media odds and ends here and there:

Racing also gave me the opportunity to get to know some very pretty girls! Not sure if that is classified as a hobby or not.... lol

That love of speed has translated into a few related hobbies. Cars, I love fast cars. My current ride is a porsche boxster that I have done numerous modifications too:
porsche1.jpg

Including hiding nitrous into it recently:

That has lead to hiding nitrous in various vehicles, I just keep finding these neat small bottles!

I've also enjoyed a few other extreme activities whilst taking a break from racing:
thrill.jpg

Even when the weather is not nice, I have a full race simulator at home to keep the adrenalin pumping :)
sim.jpg

I've always had bit of a coding/electronic interest for most of my life as well, most who know me know that I love my gadgets. I also have huge respect for retro technology as well, at one stage I did have 5 pinballs in the house (here is a pic of 4)..
pinball.jpg

This did lead into a hobby of restoring pinball machines. Here is the playfield of a sopranos machine showing before/after on the playfield from left/right side:
resto.jpg

My love of tech and coding also lead me to develop a few iphone/ipad apps too (all of which were not approved by Apple, but did make it out to a number of devices through the 'back door' ;P
ipad.jpg

I also like to 'upgrade' things where ever possible. Here is my one-day-old macbook getting ripped apart to spec up the ram and hard drive:
mac.jpg

With the move into aquariums, it seems the natural progression is to get into photography. Here are a couple of my favourite shots of my other pets:

That covers a few of the hundreds of hobbies I seem to get caught up in.... lol

@Sam Parker Nice sim rig. What do you race? I race a fair bit on iracing when I get the time. Used to run rfactor with ausfactor mainly who funnily enough is run by a guy named Karl who races dragbikes at Willowbank (I think some hobbies just go together...)

My hobbies -

reefing obviously (just filled the new tank up today, TJ to come in the next few days hopefully)

sim racing

watching copious amounts of motorsport, usually with my dogs Webber and Niko. Yes I named my dog Webber.

playing soccer and baseball

photography - in desperate need of an upgrade gear wise but still love to get out and shoot from time to time.

I'm ashamed to admit I really only play F1 2012 on PS3 on it...... I did setup an iRacing account, but have just been too lazy to get into it properly (needed to setup an PC and couldn't really be stuffed..) It's just a hyperstimulator with a logitech G25, but provides plenty of fun :)

Seems a lot of us are into cars/motorsport.
I have a very slow going Torana restoration, hopefully doing some more work on her this Summer.

Its a long story but I gave it to a so-called-know-it-all-mate to put in new floor pans. He had it for over 12 months and it came back completely F$@%ed.
Luckily I have found someone who can help me get her all fixed up and ready for a new spray job.

I think that reefing is the slow, quiet and relaxing yin to motorsport's loud, fast and adrenaline inducing yang.

I have several other hobbies other than keeping marine organisms. I also keep quail (California quail), Fowl (domestic hens to keep my family supplied with eggs) and I have a pet water-dragon which I have had for years. In addition, I also keep native stingless bees (Tetragonula carbonaria) (info on this species can be found at this web address: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetragonula_carbonaria ).

In recent times I have also taken up Ice and Inline skating (a hobby that I share with both of my kids). This hobby keeps me fit and gets me out of the house (although I do practice at home in the garage). In particular I enjoy "freestyle" skating. I have included a video of me practicing below. Apologies for the poor quality and for those of you who don't like Stevie Wonder's music!

Seems to be a few common hobbies here. A few of my others are my reptiles - numerous blonde phase macs, hunting, shooting, fishing, gardening and my very slowly progressing car project - 90's era dual cab hilux body onto a gq patrol/ford maverick chassis and suspension with a 4L v8 engine from a toyota soarer, probably put a blower on it once it is up and running to give it a bit more boogy.

Lets see here, we have dogs, woodworking and guns, what the hell good is an American without a gun or 50? :D Avid hunter and surf fisherman and the wife and I have been mulling around the idea of getting another boat when we finish a whole house remodel in a year or so. Anyone gets up this way I will be MORE than happy to take you out shooting. I do it all the time with friends I've met on the internet.

Vaultboy, if that Patrol is a diesel you can send it my way, I'll make sure it gets exercised. Here's a pic of our modified Suzuki Samurai, guess they're Sierras or Jimnys down your way.

I do envy your American gun laws, but not the crime... I get out shooting a bit with a couple of mates but its so hard to hunt legitimately here because everything is so restricted for example in South Australia it is an offence to discharge a firearm on any public land, national parks, beaches etc. so you have to know land owners and they need to sign paperwork to allow you to shoot on their land.

Yes the Patrol is a diesel (but its only 2.8 not 4.2 :( ) and no I will not be sending it your way ;) I will hopefully have the floor welded up and a new battery for it in the next couple of weeks then I can start driving it again! I have always wanted a modified Sierra (Samurai isa cooler name though) they look like so much fun!

If you stay out of the cities here in the USA, you're very safe. I couldn't tell you the last time I was in the city proper, probably 15 years or so ago. I'm a country boy so not much use for anything there.

Here in the US, anything diesel in a small truck or utility vehicle is just about impossible to get hold of. I'm looking for another Samurai to put a VW TDI in. The truck in the picture had a 1600cc 16v Sidekick motor in it and it moved it quite well.

Not much in the way of pics - mosty just car parts strewn up my driveway. think wrecking yard :) but my biggest hurdle was the wiring of the engine - 120 odd wires go from the engine to the ecu so this was a momentous occasion
[Broken External Image]:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v234/bimborocks/th_Hiluxfirststart_zpsa4a1dd96.mp4
FYI that engine is just sitting on a few blocks of wood - shows how smooth they are. youtube 1uz 50 cent trick and see how smooth they are from the factory :)

Cheers

That is one sweet motor mate.

Here's my other 2 oil burners, 2004 Chevy 1 tonne with the Duramax and Allison transmission towing my 1999 VW Golf TDI. Both are now heavily modified. I make Camaros and Mustangs cry with both. Nothing worse than getting yous ass handed to you by a 4 pot German diesel or a 3500 kilo truck, lol.

I want to put a duramax and allison in my Patrol. I thought diesels were a big thing in the USA? Just from talking to people I thought they were quite common...

You either have 4 pots from VW or inline 6's from Cummins and the V8's from Chevy and Ford, not much selection between 1.9 litre and 5.8 litre Cummins which really sucks. :(
