Algae build up in skimmer
Hi guys, I have noticed in the last week an algae build up in my skimmer, it's a green looking algae on the inside of the clear PVC of the unit.
I have attached a picture to show you what I mean, any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Bio films naturally occur in skimmers.
Since this green algae looks photosynthetic , starving it of light might kill it off.
High phosphate levels - over 0.30 will fuel any types of algae bloom.
There are many ways to reduce phosphates in marine aquariums. Once the phosphate are down to about 0.05 to 0.10 you will be fighting your battles against coralline algae.

The light in the sump does put light onto the skimmer not direct light but it does get light

Nothing to worry about.

Just clean the skimmer body as part of your general maintenance regime. All skimmers should be removed and thoroughly cleaned from time to time just like all the other equipment like powerheads, heaters etc, etc.
